The most important thing for any aspiring Serious Literary Author to remember is that you must never, under any circumstances, be seen to laugh at anything. For seasoned SLAs, laughter is a distant memory; the process has been all but erased from our bodies. But newcomers must contend with the instinct to laugh throughout the day. This is where Laughter Suppression Training comes in. The main tenet of LST is Chuckle Ejection, which involves the author forcibly expelling a whole day’s worth of laughter first thing in the morning. The average non-literary adult will laugh for eight minutes per day, so the author should spend around this much time laughing in private each morning before doing anything, or seeing anyone. (For those who live in shared properties, this exercise can be done in the shower.)
